I Put The Try In Trimester.
The second trimester of a real pregnancy brings significant changes. Typically, we learn the gender of the baby, the bump really starts coming into focus, we tell everyone about the pregnancy (well, at least I got that part down) and fun ultrasound pictures abound! None of this really relates to me in any way, shape or form. The best I can come up with is the 2nd trimester is going to be my own personal anti-bump campaign. In the first 13 weeks, many women gain a little weight, but you can't really tell that big changes are happening. I can relate to this. I lost almost ten pounds- not super noticeable. BUT, the next 13 weeks could take me from 0 to 60 (or maybe 10 to 30??).
I want strict to be my middle name for a few weeks. I don't want to purge so much (not literally mind you) to create an equal an opposite binge (every action has a reaction) but I need a little mental boost to keep me motivated. I bought a LivingSocial deal at a medical weight loss center. It's a four week program (normally 12 but this is the discounted version). It's through a doctor's office and the basics are that they will analyze my current state of health by sending me for some fancy blood work, giving me an EKG and measuring my body fat. Based on this, they will put me on a diet plan. I felt like I just needed a little jump start. Plus, I wouldn't normally get this type of blood work (lipid panels, insulin, hemoglobin A1C, vitamin D, etc) and since I am really doing all of this in the name of health, it would be good to take this opportunity to know where I stand. Otherwise, my first trimester plan (when I stuck to it) was working quite well: eat better, eat less, drink lots of water and exercise. Seriously simple yet seriously effective. I'm also running again. The shin splints seem to be on vacation! I am running a 5 mile race on March 24th (yiiiiikes). It's the first race I am doing in the Shoreline Race Series (if you run 7 of the races, including a 10-miler, you get a jacket. I want me a jacket). So I have called upon my buddy Hal Higdon and started his 10k plan this week. My ultimate goal is to a 12.4 mile race Labor Day weekend so since I have more than enough time, I'd like to build up to that. Running does a body good and incinerates fat. Yes, please!
The first few days of a diet are kind of tough. You're very aware of how much you miss all the food you can't have. This week kind of feels like the first few days since I've basically had a re-start in the plan. I left work today to go workout. I have a gym membership, but sometimes when I am just going to be running, I will go to my mom's and use her treadmill. It tends to be quicker and easier, it's on my way home and I get to spend a little time with mama bear. Before I hit up Gym Mama, she asked me if I could pick up her Chinese take-out. I hadn't eaten in a couple hours and deliriously said yes to this request. I walked into the restaurant and everything about this place smelled amazing. My mom's order was piled high and deep with all of my favorite foods. I'll stop here to acknowledge that she offered to order me something, but I declined. My resolve to lose weight is particularly strong right now so I need to make hay while the sun is shining. It's probably only a matter of time before I am elbow deep french fries so I have to make this count. I plopped the food on the front seat next to me and fantasized about it on the ride home. At a red light, I couldn't take it anymore and I stole a fortune cookie. Someone up there is making fun of me and thoroughly enjoying it. You honestly can't make this stuff up:
|Sarcastic and wise, how I like to think of myself|
|And the back: happiness :)|
